Installing new optics on your favorite rifle or handgun typically means getting the right accessories to work with them. Gun optics accessories can include many things to enhance the way the optics work or make it easier to mount and protect them on your gun.

Required Accessories

When installing new optics on a firearm, you will need some parts to make everything work. Gun optics accessories often include mounting rings and bases for the optics you are using and are the first thing you will need.

The firearm may already have the correct mounting holes, but the bases and mounts are often specific to the optics system. Gun optics are similar to scopes in some ways, but most do not magnify the target. Instead, they use a system that allows pinpoint accuracy and easy adjustments for changing conditions.

A red dot or an illuminated reticle inside the optic tube allows the shooter to hit the target accurately every time. However, the optics must be mounted securely to the firearm to remain accurate. The mounts typically use a base plate attached to the gun and two mounting rings around the optics and secure to the base.

When you purchase the optics for your gun, you can look at the gun optics accessories the shop carries to find the right size rings and a base that matches and will fit your firearm. These are required accessories because you can not mount the optics without them.

Lens Protection And Care

The gun optics you choose for your rifle or handgun need proper care, and many hunting and fishing outfitters sell gun optics accessories like covers that you can put on the optics when you are not using them. The covers will protect the glass lenses from scratches and damage to the coatings.

While you are at the outfitters, you should consider getting some lens cleaning clothes and cleaner. Optics cleaners use the right combination of chemicals to clean the dirt and dust off the glass lenses but leave the antiglare coating alone. Damaging the lens coating can cause lens flare and refracted light inside the optics, making it extremely challenging to see the target downrange.

Using a microfiber cloth as you would for glasses or a camera lens is vital to prevent scratches to the glass. However, it is essential to store the microfiber cloth away from dust and dirt so it will not get transferred to the optics.

Other gun optics accessories you may want to consider are neoprene covers to protect the optics in wet weather or on brutally cold days. Check with the associate at the shop to see what other accessories they have that you may need.
